Friday, December 26, 2008 @ 10:28 AM

I wish to thank "geo" for taking a big chunk of time out of their day to make a sweep of several pages to correct spelling and grammar errors. If you find an error (or many), feel free to contact me and let me know. With over 1,000 pages scattered throughout, I may miss much. :)

Tuesday, December 23, 2008 @ 4:55 AM

I wish to take this time and thank all of my dedicated readers over the years. Your kind words in my inbox as well as your donations to support my efforts are greatly appreciated!

Have a Wonderful Holiday Season!

Windows XP x86 (32-bit) SP3 Custom Services Control Batch File Tool. As described below, this tool allows the creation of a batch file (.bat extension) and uses the built in command line tool sc.exe to modify service settings without modifying the settings directly via the registry. Since this is the first release of the Default Services Control Batch Files and Custom Tool, it should be considered "beta" or even "alpha", but I have tested them without failure. Contact BV if you have any issues resulting from these new sections. Enjoy!

Tuesday, December 2, 2008 @ 8:41 AM

I have placed online a new section for Services: Windows XP Pro x64 (64-bit) SP2 Custom Services Control Batch File Tool. This tool allows the creation of a batch file (.bat extension) and uses the built in command line tool sc.exe to modify service settings without modifying the settings directly via the registry. Since this is the first release of the Default Services Control Batch Files and Custom Tool, it should be considered "beta" or even "alpha", but I have tested them without failure. Contact BV if you have any issues resulting from these new sections. Enjoy!

Additional OS versions will be posted soon.

Tuesday, November 25, 2008 @ 2:09 PM

A little over 12 more hours until Wrath of the Lich King hits the streets.

Friday, October 24, 2008 @ 8:11 AM

A vulnerability in the Server Service has been discovered for Windows 2000 -> Windows 7 (basically, all versions in the last 9 years). Please see this security bulletin and update your PC accordingly: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS08-067.mspx

Tuesday, October 21, 2008 @ 7:08 AM

New links on the left navigation under "Save and Share" on select pages now assist my web site visitors in submitting content to bookmarking web sites. Examples include Digg and delicious. Enjoy!

I also wish to include a feature on the services tables to "hide" particular columns not of interest to the reader. Along those same lines, I wish to add a column or two for additional information, but until the "hide" feature is figured out on my part, I am going to refrain from making the tables any larger then they already are.

Thursday, October 16, 2008 @ 8:27 AM

A reader reported to me that an incorrect file was uploaded (.txt extension instead of .reg) in the .zip "Safe" registry patch for XP Pro x86 (32-bit). The error has been corrected and a new file uploaded.

Tuesday, October 14, 2008 @ 5:24 AM

The new feature for the services tables "column sorting" is finished and online. All service configuration tables (including the archived ones) are now sort able using the column header. Your sorting preferences are also kept between browser sessions using cookies (if enabled). Enjoy!

Sunday, October 5, 2008 @ 5:20 AM

More PDF files are coming soon as well as a new feature for the services tables: Column sorting. Hopefully, these two projects will be finished by Tuesday. Stay Tuned!

Tuesday, September 23, 2008 @ 8:51 AM

I can never leave things alone. The document I posted about below is cut down to 113 pages by removing a couple of lines per service that was not needed. The lines were good for the web, but not so good for printable versions. :)

I also modified the tables to landscape printing.

Tuesday, September 23, 2008 @ 6:42 AM

Added a new section: Downloads

This section currently only has Windows XP Pro x64 Service Configurations PDF file, but I plan on including the other OS's information as time allows. It took me a bit longer then I expected to get it to the way I wanted it and it still is not pretty. It also took me awhile to figure out how to do it. Several different methods did not pan out, but I have the process down, now, and more will be coming soon. Due to popular request, I am offering the latest revision for download and feedback. The initial document is 129 pages long. Enjoy!

Tuesday, September 16, 2008 @ 8:54 AM

Windows XP x64 (64-bit) "Safe" Services Configuration Registry File is now online and available for download.

I have also modified all the Custom Services Configuration Registry Tool pages to highlight the row the cursor is located on. This should help my readers in ensuring each service is set as they desire.

Wednesday, September 3, 2008 @ 8:35 AM

With the release of Google Chrome Beta browser, I downloaded and checked this site and the forums for any issues and could not find any. If you are using the new browser and find a problem with it while using this site, feel free to Contact BV and I will look into it.

Tuesday, August 12, 2008 @ 7:15 AM

I transferred the domain to a different server. As a result, "issues" are sure to surface. Contact me if you discover something that is just not right. :)

Tuesday, August 5, 2008 @ 6:20 AM

It is going to take a bit longer then I expected to produce the PDF files. Rest assured that I am working on them.

Friday, August 1, 2008 @ 5:35 AM

A few things I hope to be working on this weekend:

  • Printable (PDF) files of my service configurations and descriptions
  • More download able registry settings (Safe)

Stay tuned!

Wednesday, July 29, 2008 @ 1:14 PM

The web site was mentioned in PC Gamer Magazine, 2008 Edition of the PC Builder's Bible on page 86. Thanks PC Gamer!

Wednesday, July 29, 2008 @ 1:00 PM

The web site connectivity has been spastic at best, the last few weeks. All due to a flaky modem power supply. All is up and running smoothly again and I appreciate everyone's continued support as I worked through this most recent issue.

Tuesday, July 29, 2008 @ 6:45 AM

If you are using Firefox, IE 7 or any other browser that supports the :hover pseudo-class on table rows, you will now be able to mouse over the service configuration tables and each row will highlight. I have been wanting to do that for so long... and it was such an easy change. :) Enjoy!

Monday, July 21, 2008 @ 4:11 AM

The network connectivity issue has came back. As such, connectivity issues may result for the next couple of days. Rest assured that I am working on the issue.

XP Pro x64 (64-bit) Custom Services Registry File Tool is back online.

All I can say is...

Tuesday, June 17, 2008 @ 5:57 AM

Windows XP Service Pack 3 Custom Services Registry Tools are back online. Feel free to Contact BV if you discover any issues with the new tools. Downloadable registry files are coming soon. Enjoy!

Saturday, June 7, 2008 @ 12:25 PM

I am about up and running again. Vista installation issues coupled with reinstalling everything over and over has delayed my progress, but I should be good to go in the next couple of days. I appreciate everyone's patience as I work through my own issues. :)

Wednesday, May 28, 2008 @ 11:22 AM

Many things have happened in the last few days, namely my wife's computer crapping out and my efforts have been spent getting her system and mine back up and running. In any case, things will hopefully be back to normal in the next few days. I have lots of updates coming with new guides and extended information planned throughout the domain... it just all takes time. :)

Hang in there! Updates will be here ASAP.

Wednesday, April 2, 2008 @ 8:30 AM

Looks like the connections are back online early. Sweet. :)

Wednesday, April 2, 2008 @ 7:00 AM

Both internet connections went down at around 5:11 AM today. I contacted AT&T and they told me a network outage is affecting my local area. As such, the domain is and will be down until approximately 10:45 AM today. If you are reading this... connectivity is restored. :)

Tuesday, April 1, 2008 @ 8:58 AM

Windows Vista Services SP1 "A - Z" has been finished (at least this round). Dependencies still need a run through to verify all information. First thing is first. :)

Tuesday, April 1, 2008 @ 7:40 AM

Currently, "A - R" is done, but several other Vista services have also been updated.

Tuesday, April 1, 2008 @ 4:56 AM

No joke! I am working hard on Vista SP1 information to include "Additional Reading" pertaining to the particular service in question as well as a "Discussion Link" to the service on the forums. Currently, "A - H" is done, but several other services have also been updated. Stay tuned! Much more is coming!

Tuesday, March 25, 2008 @ 6:30 AM

Added a new page: WoW Mod Listing. This page is a listing of all World of Warcraft UI Modifications that I currently use.

Sunday, March 9, 2008 @ 4:17 PM

Lots of work ahead of me tonight. I am adding individual service discussion links, verifying all dependencies as well as expanding all services, starting with "A" tonight and tomorrow with regards to Windows Vista. Stay tuned for more!

Everything is back and online. Enjoy!

Friday, March 7, 2008 @ 7:28 AM

The main site, DNS, Email and forums will be coming down for about 30 minutes "sometime today" while I install additional memory and run a quick Memtest on the system.
Don't phreak out. It will be back up shortly after (if all goes as planned at least).

Thursday, March 6, 2008 @ 9:10 AM

A moment of silence for Gary Gygax, whom passed on March 4, 2008:

http://games.slashdot.org/games/08/03/04/1750206.shtml

Co-creator of Dungeons and Dragons, he claimed many hours of my younger years as I read and was enthralled with the books drafted about D&D.

I salute thee.

Rest in Peace.

Tuesday, February 26, 2008 @ 9:24 AM

Tons of link modification and general clean up with the domain. Over 1300 pages, so it takes some time. But do not worry, more Vista SP1 updates are coming as well as the soon to be released XP SP3 information. Stay Tuned!

Tuesday, February 26, 2008 @ 6:15 AM

All of the old news should be online and edited to remove links that are no longer valid. Reading through it all really brought back some good memories.

Monday, February 25, 2008 @ 6:38 AM

After about five months of time away from World of Warcraft, I decided to fire up my subscription for one more month. Maybe I can get all of my characters to 70, now. :) The character listing now includes /played time, updated a few minutes ago, next to their name.

Total time /played = 292 days, 17 hours, 35 minutes, 9 seconds

Monday, February 25, 2008 @ 4:27 AM

"All" of my old news is back online. Of course, no updates were posted during 2006, but all the way back to 1999 is back. Some links will go to pages that I have long since deleted, but they should be fixed/removed in the next few hours (I hope). :)

Monday, February 25, 2008 @ 3:01 AM

The redesign is complete. Please contact me with any display issues you may find "after" refreshing/clearing your browser cache.

Thursday, February 21, 2008 @ 11:36 AM

This weekend, I plan on doing a little redesign of the site to include getting rid of the ads on the right side of the page and placing them near the top. This will help those visitors/readers with lower resolution settings view my pages easier.

Thursday, February 21, 2008 @ 11:29 AM

The Pursuit of Perfection... Failed?

Subjective content, meaning opinion based methods of evaluation, leave quite a sour taste in my mouth.

The Rant: Pursuit of Perfection... Failed?

Monday, February 4, 2008 @ 9:42 AM

Updated more pages for Vista Service Pack 1. They should all be finished in the next couple of days.

Tuesday, February 2, 2008 @ 6:54 PM

Updated many pages throughout the domain.

Monday, January 28, 2008 @ 3:12 AM

Updated all Registry Patch and most Services pages for Vista SP1. Even though it took only a few seconds to type that sentence... it took many, many hours to actually do what it states. :)
