Volume Shadow Copy

Default Description:

Manages and implements Volume Shadow Copies used for backup and other purposes. If this service is stopped, shadow copies will be unavailable for backup and the backup may fail. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start.

Additional Information:

Used in conjunction with the MS Software Shadow Copy Provider service. Microsoft Backup also uses these services. You will receive, in the Event Log, an entry complaining about not having this service running if disabled. I have yet to find a side effect, though. If you do not like the errors, place it in Manual. By keeping it out of Automatic, you will save about 3.0 MB of memory.
