With zero machine expertise, and with advice from experts (paid and ‘friends’) saying basically ‘don’t need to change any settings, just buy an expensive computer and then load it up with all kinds of third party sentinel software’ —I’ve worked my way through 8 years of running XP Home – naked and with judicious manual updating – on a perfectly adequate machine for my needs only because of your careful guide to services.
    I’ve just bought a new machine and Win7 to run it, and am actually looking forward to reducing the boot time and power use with your guide at my side. More than that, I will positively enjoy reading in depth about each service because your individual articles set out the guts of the detail without the jargon.
    Most importantly, I won’t be letting the new machine talk to the internet *until* I understand as much of each service as I can with your help.
