I have finished playing Warcraft 3 Beta and thought I would post a screen shot of my pathetic record. There truly is some outstanding players out there. Hope to be as good as them some day.

I have been playing Warcraft 3 Beta for a few now, I have some points that I would like to Rant about:

  • The different races are great, but not all have the "advantages" as others do...
    • Orcs have "spikes" and towers to fend off the "rush."
    • Humans have the "ring bell" to turn peons into super fighters, not to mention "build towers anywhere."
    • Night Elves have building that attack.
    • Undead have... Well, ghouls that are useless after 4 minutes and the constraints of "having to build on the blight." Which means that this is the only race that cannot build (or try to defend) a expansion town "easily."

The fix? Allow Ziggurat's to be built "anywhere."

  • Some races seem to be a bit more powerful than others:
    • Orcs have seemingly unstoppable Grunts only after 5 minutes of game play.
    • Human Footmen are only a slight step down from the grunts.
    • Night Elves Huntresses are pretty powerful in their own right.
    • Undead have...hm... Ghouls that pop like popcorn with any opponents.

If you have not already figured it out... I am attempting to play Undead. :)

Since I last wrote my "wish" list below, Blizzard released a patch to add, in part, an idle villager button. Truly, these people kick ass.

Since Dungeon Siege has been released, I will probably be spending most of my time with it, now. Here are some thoughts on Warcraft 3:

Pro's: Con's:
Having the ability to choose 1, 2 or 3 hero's per race is great! Having your hero get killed is almost a sure fire way to lose.
Having 4 races is GREAT! Trying to figure out what counters what is going to take some time.
The different ways "peons" gather gold and resources is outstanding Needing an "idle villager hotkey" is almost a requirement.
The graphics are pretty, from buildings being built to the face icons in the tool bar. I see NO problem with this, unless, you do not have a computer up to spec.

The Warcraft 3 BETA is great. I am rather happy with how things have turned out. I also like the "standard" game feature of being able to select what options you wish and seeking out a matching opponent. Saves a lot of headache sitting in chat rooms and begging for someone to join... trust me, that is reason #2 I hate to play online...the other? Analog connection. :)

Looks as though the B crew yelled at Ebay and had them pull all of their Warcraft 3 CD's out of auction. :) Glad I decided to keep mine, :)

The Warcraft 3 BETA sure does bring back memories. Warcraft 2 is probably one of my all time favorites. Anyway, I was able to join one game: 4v4. It is a server based game, so if the host gets his ass whooped up on, the game is basically over.

I did learn one thing... after the host leaves, you can "Continue" and keep on building without any further interruptions...like other people. Orc's, my race of choice, was fun. The animation is great and some truly neat sounds are played (including speech blurbs that each unit spits out when clicked on multiple times.)

I took many screenshots (at 1600x1200x32) and they are each 7.32 MB. Just as much as patch v1.02 was. :) I will have to figure out a way to post them (.jpg format) but not lose any of their PUNCH... :)

Stay tuned! Sleepy Time!

The Warcraft 3 BETA CD is already going for $150+ bucks on EBAY, even though it is VERY against the EULA.

From the Blizzard "beta test" instructions:

"You are not entitled to: sell, auction, or grant a security interest in or transfer reproductions of the Program to other parties in any way, nor to rent, lease or license the Program to others without the prior written consent of Blizzard;"

Better get your bids in fast... they may be pulled off of the market. :)

The Warcraft 3 BETA CD is in the hands of BV. Will check up on Battle.net to see what is going on in the near future. Stay tuned for screenshots, etc... I have only had it for 20 minutes... :)
