Windows XP Pro x64
Default Description
Collects and stores network configuration and location information, and notifies applications when this information changes.
Additional Information
Before the installation of Service Pack 2, this service was required for use with the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service (server only). After the installation of Service Pack 2, it no longer is required. However, it has been reported to me that Real Player may require this service, otherwise it will stall. It has also been reported to me that Windows Live OneCare firewall requires this service. If you have a wired or wireless network card installed, this service needs to be in Manual mode (and started) for the wireless card to properly obtain a dynamic IP address and update the icon in the system tray.
